she keeps the food pantry padlocked and offers the children nothing but
gruel for their two state-mandated meals per day. She also has a strict
policy against pets. But Andi and Bruce know their only other option is
to be moved into separate homes, so they endure their current
conditions and are careful to keep their dog hidden. Things get
complicated when Friday begins running repeatedly afoul of the city's
Animal Control officers.

to keep their dog safe, decide to make it Friday's new home. Soon, Bruce
is using his remarkable knack for engineering to invent a variety of
clever dog amenities, and the kids (with the help of some newly acquired
friends) begin to rescue a growing number of the city's strays.

canines and humans form their own ragtag family. But Animal Control
officials are hot on their trail, leading to an ultimate confrontation
that could separate Andi, Bruce, and their beloved pet permanently.

light-hearted fantasy, it works wonderfully. Bruce's inventions are
delightfully creative, and the dogs' enjoyment of them is irresistibly
entertaining. Unfortunately, director Thor Freudenthal (in his first
feature-length project) is constantly pushing the film into grittier,
more realistic territory, making the fantastical elements seem suddenly
implausible and silly.

Sometimes Hotel for Dogs seems to want to mine a family-drama pathos evocative of films like Because of Winn-Dixie.
In other scenes the movie is dragged down by heavy-handed social
commentary that overplays the obvious parallels between orphans and
strays. The points the filmmakers are making are good ones—family is
worth fighting for, and it can be created in unlikely places—but the
characters and plot are not well-developed enough to sustain anything
too serious for too long. A breezier, more consistent touch would have
served this movie well.

He is a white Wire Fox Terrier and Tintin's
four-legged companion who travels everywhere with him. The bond between
Snowy and Tintin is very deep and they have saved each other from
perilous situations many times.

Character history

With a few exceptions, Snowy never speaks (although he is regularly
seen thinking in human words), since he is "only a dog". However, he
always manages to communicate well with Tintin, particularly in the
early stories. Snowy often adds to the story in notable ways. For
instance, Snowy is the only character in Flight 714
to remember that he was abducted by aliens. Snowy has rescued Tintin
(often by gnawing through restraints, or seeking help), or rescued him
from a tight spot by biting or distracting a villain, many times
throughout the series.

Like Captain haddock, Snowy is fond of Loch lomond brand Scotch whisky, and his occasional bouts of drinking tend to get him into trouble, as does his acute Arachnophobia.
Snowy is also fond of bones, to the point of being easily tempted, even
when the last thing he should think about is the bone; for example, he
once lost a message from Tintin because of a bone.

The character of Snowy evolved through the course of the Tintin series, and was most dramatically affected by the introduction of Captain Haddock in The Crab with The Golden Claws.
Before Haddock's appearance, Snowy was the source of dry and cynical
side-commentary, which balanced out Tintin's constantly positive,
optimistic perspective. When Haddock entered the series, the Captain
took over the role of the cynic, and Snowy gradually shifted into a more
light-hearted role, serving to create comic relief by chasing the Marlin spike cat (they become friends in the end of The Calculus Affair), drinking the Captain's whisky, etc. Milou was named after Hergé's first girlfriend Malou (a contraction of the name Marie-Louise), although the character is referred to as male throughout the books.

The 1939 Portuguese edition of Tintin in the Congo, renamed as Tintin em Angola, was locally colored and had a yellow female Snowy, renamed Rom-Rom.

of "Hercules, the World's Biggest Dog". In the photos, the dog is
GIANT. But there is enough info out there about the real deal Hercules
to fuel the legend and keep the links and emails circulating.

Spike is a stern but occasionally dumb British Bulldog
who is particularly disapproving of cats, but a softie when it comes to
mice, and later, his son Tyke. In the shorts Jerry would often try to
get Tom in trouble with Spike making him a shoo-in for a beating from
the bulldog. Spike has a few weaknesses that Tom tries to capitalize
upon: his possessiveness about his bone and his ticklishness. He made
his first appearance in the 1942 Tom and Jerry cartoon Dog Trouble, and his first speaking role was in 1944's The Bodyguard, where he was voiced by Billy bletcher up until 1949, from which point he was voiced by Daws Butler
Tyke is known as a cute, sweet, happy and a loveable pup. He is Spike's
son and they make the perfect father and son, with Spike spending much
of his free time comforting his son, taking him out or teaching him the
facts of life of being a dog. In Tom and Jerry kids, Tyke has a speaking role and was the first time that Tom and Jerry fans were able to hear Tyke speak.

Spike Rhys Bulldog is a grey bulldog that appears in many episodes of Tom and Jerry. He is a friend of Jerry and a rival of Tom.

He hates Tombecause in the episodes that Spike appears, Tom is chasing Jerry around but ends up giving Spike or his son, tyke,
a bad day. Obviously, whenever Spike tells Tom not to do a certain
thing (ex. dirtying Tyke), Jerry does his best to get Tom in trouble (in
the example, Jerry would get Tyke as dirty as possible). He was
originally called Killer. Tom cat's son is his foe and hero.

In his very first appearance, Dog trouble
Spike is the main antagonist, chasing and attacking both Tom and Jerry
on sight, even trying to eat Jerry, which forced the two to work
together to defeat him. In all subsequent shorts, Spike becomes typecast
as the stereotypical dumb brute who is always duped into becoming a
shield for Jerry from Tom. It is only in two episodes where Jerry gets
Spike out of a jam and the dog willingly protects him from Tom in
well-earned gratitude. On most occasions, Jerry causes trouble for Tom
by luring him near Spike and harming him to get him angry, and in some
cartoons when its perfectly obvious that Tom is not responsible, as seen
in The Invisible Mouse, Spike still blames Tom and hurts him instead of
Jerry.

Spike, however, is not without a softer and sympathetic side: in the episode Pet Peeve,
after believing that Tom is willing to leave the house in Spike's
favour, Spike feels sorry for him to the point that he offers to leave
instead, which Spike does until he realises that Tom is only using
reverse psychology to trick him into leaving. In The Truce Hurts,
Spike is portrayed as a very intelligent and equilibrated character
when he convinces Tom and Jerry to stop the fighting among the three of
them and sign a Peace Treaty, but their newfound friendship comes to an
end when they argue over how to share a big steak, symbolised when Spike
tears the truce contract to shreds and they go back to fighting again.
From the 1942 cartoon Dog Trouble to 1948 cartoon Heavenly Puss he was voiced by Billy Bletcher. His name also varies in some shorts: in he is named "Killer", and in Solid SerenadeThe Truce Hurts he signs "Butch" on the treaty paper.

The son ( Tyke )

In Tom's later attempts to catch Jerry, he has to deal with Spike for bothering his son. In 1949's Love That Pup, Spike was given a puppy son, Tyke, who became another popular supporting character in the Tom and JerryDaws butler, who styled Spike's voice after Jimmy Durante taking after his 1940s radio series with Garry Moore. He is named Spike
from then on and is not changed again. When Tyke is introduced, Spike
is given a softer approach (mainly towards his son) and is kinder and
less aggressive, but is still portrayed as a dumb animal on more than
one occasion. Spike's love and affection towards Tyke becomes Jerry's
newest weapon against Tom, as his strategy goes from luring Tom towards
Spike to inflicting harm on Tyke, and even when it is perfectly obvious
that Jerry is responsible and not Tom, as seen in Love That Pup. Spike fails to see this and still blames Tom.

The Pomeranian is one of they toy breeds and weighs between 3 and 7 pounds (there are larger poms, and although not to the
breed standard, they still make wonderful loving pets!). Intelligent and vivacious, these little dogs will steal your
heart, but don't let them get away with too much as they must be properly trained or they will become too demanding. With
proper care your Pom can live to about 15 years old.

History

Did you know the Pomeranian was once a much larger dog that
weighed around 35 pounds? A cousin to the spitz type dogs, this pampered lap dog once called the arctic home.

Bred down to it's tiny size over the centuries, the Pomeranian
became popular in the late 1800's when Queen Victorian brought a 12 pound Pom back from Italy. This vivacious little dog soon
became a favorite of European royalty and was bred to be even smaller until it reached the average of 5 pounds.

Historically, the Pomeranian has been fancied by many famous
Europeans. Michelangelo had a little Pom that sat on a silk pillow and watched him while he painted the Sistine Chapel.
Martin Luther, the great church leader had one of these little dogs that he mentioned often in his work. Mozart had a
Pomeranian that he dedicated an Aria to and Chopin composed the Valse des Petits Chiens for his girlfriends Pom.

Overview

The Pomeranian is lively and eager to learn. They
get along well with other household pets if given a slow and proper
introduction. They make wonderful companions for families with older,
well-behaved children and the elderly.

Character

The Pomeranian is a compact, active toy breed.
They are intelligent, extremely loyal to their family, and loving. They
are eager to please, gentle, and affectionate. They also exhibit an
inquisitive expression and curiosity.

Temperament

The Pomeranian is confident, commanding, and
outgoing. Due to the Pomeranians small stature they are not recommended
for homes with small children as they may become temperamental. They
make excellent guard dogs and will sound a bark when they sense danger.

Care and Grooming

Pomeranians are easy to care for but do need some special
attention. They can be easily groomed in less than 1 hour a day, but I am sure you will want to spend much more time than
that bonding with your pet!

Brushing your Pomeranian every day is a good way to bond with
your pet as well as insure his coat is healthy and looks good. Poms have a double coat that can easily become matted so
brushing is necessary. A once a week – or every couple of weeks – bath is a nice way to keep your Pom smelling and
looking good! Don't forget to groom around his paws and tail area as well as clip his nails.

Unfortunately, Pomeranians can be prone to tooth problems.
Tooth loss and bacterial buildup is not uncommon in these little dogs so you should take extra care to make sure your pet
has the proper dental care. Brush your dogs teeth daily with a specially formulated enzymatic tooth paste that fights bacteria
and have yearly dental checks and scaling if necessary. Tooth care is quite important to your dogs overall health as if
bacteria is left unchecked in the mouth, it can spread throughout the dogs body and cause health problems for your
pet.

The Pom's eyes are another area where you should pay some
special attention. Like most small dogs, discharge from the eye can accumulate causing staining and, sometimes a goopy
mess. Clean the area around the eye daily with a Q-tip (be careful not to get too close to the dogs eye). If the fur
around the eye becomes stained, you can buy a special liquid that helps remove the staining.

Health Problems

Luxating Patellas or a knee that slips out of place is common
in Pomeranians and in some cases this may require surgery. Many Poms suffer from hypothyroidism which can cause other problems
and should be checked by your vet. Some Poms lose patches of hair as they grow older. This usually starts at the back and
moves forward. If your Pom sounds like he is coughing then he may have a collapsing trachea which is not uncommon in this
breed. An xray can determine if this is the problem and medication can be given to reduce coughing. Tooth loss and
bacteria build up is a problem in Pomeranians as well as other small dogs.

In 1993, Jerry Shepard (Walker) is a guide at an Antartica research base under contract with the National Science Foundation. UCLA professor, Dr. Davis McClaren (Greenwood) arrives at the base and presses Shepard to take him to Mount Melborne to attempt to find a rare meteorite from Planet Mercury.
Shepard does so against his own intuition, which tells him that it is
too late in the season (January) to complete such a treacherous route.
Worried about the snowmobiles breaking through the thinning ice or
falling in a crevasse, Shepard tells his boss and McClaren that the only way to get to Mount Melbourne is by dog sled.

Shepard and McClaren make it to Mount Melbourne but are immediately
called back to base camp due to an approaching storm. McClaren begs for
some time, and Shepard gives him half a day. McClaren finds what he was
looking for and the two head back to the sled.

Shepard pauses to patch up one of the dogs (Old Jack) whose paw is
bleeding. McClaren, while walking around to get a better radio
connection with base, slides down an embankment when a soft ledge gives
way. His landing at the bottom cracks the thin ice and McClaren ends up
breaking through. Shepherd is able to get his lead dog Maya to take a
rope to McClaren and the dog team pulls him from the water.

Now, as they battle hypotemis, frostbiteand near whiteout
conditions, Shepard and McClaren have to rely on the dogs' stamina and
keen sense of direction to get them back to base. The injured people are
immediately evacuated, along with all other personnel, due to the
storm, which is expected to intensify. With too much weight in the plane
to carry both people and dogs, the human team medically evacuates
Shepard and McClaren with a plan to return later for the dogs. The dogs
are temporarily left behind, but the storm is worse than expected and it
soon becomes apparent that no rescue will be attempted until the next
spring.

Back at home, Shepard is guilt-ridden about leaving his dogs, and
stops working as an Antarctic-conditions guide. Five months later, and
after a heart-to-heart session with an older, veteran guide, Shepard
decides to throw his all into rescuing the dogs. Before leaving for the
trip, Shepard patches things up with McClaren, and tells him about his
intentions to rescue the dogs. McClaren learns that Shepard does not
have enough money to pay for the trip, but tells him that he cannot help
him. Soon afterwards, McClaren sees a drawing of the dog team made by
his young son, with the title: "My Hero is... THE DOGS WHO SAVED MY
DADDY." McClaren realizes the magnitude of his ingratitude and uses the
remaining balance of his grant money to finance a rescue mission.

break free of their chains, except for Old Jack and Max. Eleven days
later, Max finally breaks free, but Old Jack, who's too old to go with
the others on their journey, dies at the base camp. The dogs now begin
hunting seals, sea qulls, and penguins in order to keep from starving. However, one night whilst looking at the southern lights,
one of the dogs, Dewey, falls off a steep slope and is fatally injured.
The dogs show their affection for their teammate, but eventually have
to move on. The youngest dog, Max, stays with Dewey a little longer and
is separated from the rest.

Max finds his way back to where McClaren fell into the ice earlier and spots a dead Orca. He has a nibble until he is attacked by a nearby Leopard seal that fiercely guards its meal. The other dogs also find their way to
the dead Orca and Max gets the leopard seal's attention so the rest can
eat. But the leopard seal quickly sees what's happening, bites Maya on
the leg and nearly kills her. Max and the other dogs fiercely chase him
off. Maya manages to survive, but her leg is seriously injured.

Shepard and his rescue team are arriving. Shepard and the five dogs have
a happy reunion. Max leads Jerry to the injured Maya, and he is able to
rescue her as well. The final scene shows a grave for Old Jack and
Dewey.

you won't like her when she's angry.

•Rolly: This plump puppy has the biggest appetite of all the
pups. Food is his biggest desire, and he more often thinks with his
stomach instead of his brain. Still, he's Lucky's best friend, and
among the four main pups, he has the best sense of smell and a lot of
knowledge when it comes to the quality of dog food.

always longed to be a dalmatian puppy. She always hangs out with the
pups to have fun. Whenever the pups go on an adventure, she's usually
there with them. She'll worry about just about anything (especially
trouble).

The great Charles M Schulz created it in 1950, and it soon became the most popular comic strip in history.

Like so many of the great cartoon characters we all love, the main
characters went through a metamorphosis before they became the
characters we are all so familiar with. Two characters in the comic
became the "stars” of the strip, the runaway favorites. The two were, as
we all know, Charlie Brown and his dog, Snoopy.

The
original Charlie Brown character was not the wishy-washy loser we all
now know. Amazingly, the original Charlie Brown was quite popular with
the Peanuts gang. He was addressed, frequently, as "Good ol’ Charlie Brown.” Several of the Peanuts
girls actually had crushes on him. And Lucy, who was to become his main
nemesis, actually fantasized about getting married to him!!!

It even took a few months before he adopted that famous zig-zag
shirt. Slowly but surely, Charlie Brown got more and more insecure. And
eventually he evolved into the lovable loser we can all associate with.

Snoopy,
Charlie Brown’s dog, soon became the comic’s runaway most popular
character. But the early Snoopy was pretty much just an ordinary,
slightly mischievous dog. Introduced almost immediately in 1950, Snoopy
walked on all four legs, much like any other dog. It wasn’t until 1956,
six years later, that Snoopy got up and started walking in his famous
walk on two legs, like a human would.

Snoopy, again, very ordinarily, would sleep "inside” his dog house.
It wasn’t until two years later, in 1958, that he started lying on top
of the dog house, as we remember him. And the first time Snoopy tried
that, he had a nasty fall. Eventually, Snoopy, who originally was a mute
dog, developed the trademark "thought balloons” over his head. These
enabled readers to follow his thoughts and responses, verbally as well
as physically.

Over the years, almost in an inverse ratio to his owner Charlie
Brown, Snoopy became cooler and more confident. Charlie Brown and Snoopy
became a kind of yin-yang of the two sides of all of us.

One side, Charlie Brown, symbolized the lack of confidence, shyness,
and insecurity we all harbor, to a greater or lesser degree. And the
other half, Snoopy, is the confident, totally-in-control, cool character
we all, in our hearts (and fantasies) want to be.
